The Bristol Orphanage Sampler - Rhoda Morley

The original of this sampler is in the George Müller Foundation Museum in Bristol. 

This is a typical 'Orphanage sampler' with lots of half borders underneath a selection of alphabets.  We know that Rhoda Elizabeth Morley was born on Dec. 14th 1862 and baptised on January 4th 1863 in the parish of St. anne Blackfriars, in the city of London.  Her parents, Henry Morley and Mary Ann Bye were married on December 25th 1855 at St. John's church Waterloo in the county of Surry.  .Rhoda was delivered into the Orphanage by Caroline Fuller (aunt).  Caroline’s husband was employed by the parish.

There were other relatives;

George Morley, uncle and boatman, address not known, 

Richard Morley, farm labourer of Amburley nr Arundel

Jane Bourne, aunt, living at 11 Bridge Row, Sunbury Common, Feltham, husband a waterman


This kit includes photographs of the Needlework Syllabus at the time plus the uniform worn by the girls and needlwork tools of the time
