The Bristol Orphanage Sampler - Daisy

The original of this sampler is held in the Museum of the George Müller Charitable Trust, Bristol England.  The reproduction has been worked on 36 count sand linen using DMC thread..............Pearsall's Filoselle silk No. 85 is ideal for this sampler and may be purchased from sales@pearsallsembroidery.com.  The reproduction was worked by Janet Edwards, my thanks to Janet.  It is a faithful copy and includes Daisy's mistakes.

The name at the top of the motif sevtion is Mrs Muller the wife of George Muller founder of the orphanage........apparently all the children loved Mrs Muller.

The kit includes information and illustrations of Orphanage life including the Needlework Syllabus at the time.

The Bristol Orphanage Sampler - Blue and Yellow

The original of this sampler is held in the George Muller Museum in Bristol England.  This is a faithful copy of the sampler, including mistakes. This is an unusual sampler in that it is worked in 4 colours, yellow blue, dark yellow and peach.  Ususally Orphanage samplers are worked in red only.  There isn't a name on this sampler hence the title  'Blue and Yellow' and unfortunately we do not have any information about the girl who worked it.

It was worked on 40 count cream linen using Pearsall's Filoselle silk, by Lesley Gilderthorp, my thanks to Lesely.  A special price, pack of threads for this sampler is availble from www.pearsallsembroidery.co.uk

The Bristol Orphanage Sampler  -  Rosina Wedlake

The original of this sampler is held in the George Muller Museum in Bristol, England.  This is a faithful copy of the sampler, including mistakes.  This reproduction was worked by Jen Halford, on 40 count sand linen, using one strand of Filoselle silk No. 85, my thanks to Jen.  Thread is availble from www.pearsallsembroidery.co.uk  the date July 28th also has what looks like a year date next to it; in fact it is probably the bed number(Rosinawas not born at this time)........each child was given a bed number and this number was marked on all the child's property, so, if anything was lost it was returned to that bed.

The kit includes information about Rosina from the archives of the museum, plus other interesting facts about life in the Orphanage.
